PLEAS a.s.

Already in 1873 a man named Josef Mahler founded in „Deutsch Brod“ the company „Factitious dyeing and manufacturing of cotton and wool of every kind of knitting and weaving“. Fourteen years later the fusion with the knitting company „Factory for Knitwear" of Jan Veselý took place and different ranges of hosiery and sox over gloves up to goods of cotton and rayon had been manufactured.

In 1939 the company was converted into "Pleas a.s. Factory for knitwear and knitting machines" and in 1940 the Pleas-brand was registered as trade mark. The nationalization took place between 1945 and 1948 and from 1949 the company was renamed into „Knitting factories Karel Havlíček Borovský, National company". With „Pleas knitting factories, State company“ the traditional brand Pleas came back to the name of the company in 1967 and this was the start for growth into one of the largest  textile companies in the ČSSR.

In 1994 the privatization occurred with the establishment of the incorporated company "PLEAS a.s." and one year later the Schiesser Holding Switzerland became majority shareholder. After substantial investment and reconstruction activities the PLEAS a.s. is covering the whole value chain - from raw fabrics to packed goods. The company is engaging over 700 employees.
